The watch that ends the night is crowdfunding !

On May 4th, 2018 Chef Mark Gray officially took ownership of The Watch That Ends the Night. Having been there from the beginning as the chef, Mark fell in love with the space, the people, the food and the drink immediately. When the opportunity presented itself for him to purchase The Watch from the original owners, he took it.

Part of The Watch is a small room in the front of the restaurant. It previously existed as a retail store for cocktail wares, knives, books and all things relating to culinary and cocktail culture. Now, the space was empty and Mark knew exactly what he wanted to do with it.

A private dining space for up to 12 people, with a large mahogany table down the centre of the room. Local businesses could have luncheons there with sandwiches, coffee and tea. Small parties could celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and other occasions there. You could even have a 10-course meal with wine pairings on a Friday evening in the space.

The ambiance of the room will certainly be unique. Mahogany slats for walls from top to bottom allow the space to be open enough to get the feel of The Watch yet have the exclusivity of Cassiopeia.

Cassiopeia - the chosen name for the space, was an easy choice for Mark. Looking back at the original graphics that were created for The Watch, it was the constellation that was chosen for their image.

The space requires capital to get finished, and instead of going to a big bank and paying them interest on a loan, we want our interest to go to our clientele. That is the reason we built this crowdfunding campaign. For us to get the capital to make Cassiopeia come alive, and to give back to our clientele with packages that benefit them. Its a win-win.

We have chosen 30 days to raise the funds of $5,000.00 to make Cassiopeia a reality. The 30 days ends on September 15th, so we plan on having the space ready by October 15th.

So, on behalf of the staff and management at The Watch That Ends the night, we want to thank everyone who has supported us from the beginning, and thank you in advance to everyone who is supporting us in our next step forward!

To check out what we have to offer to raise these funds, please click on the button below which will take you to the official Cassiopeia website.

Some Very Important “Four Hands Collaborative Dinner Series” News!

Due to Executive Chef / Owner Mark Gray having his third child any time now, we will be taking the month of September off the series. We have also decided that we want to take the dinner series to the next phase, by making it more exclusive, intimate and refined. In order to do that, we are cutting the seating by 2/3 from the previous 36, to a new total of 12 available seats. From here on out, it will take place in our brand new 12-seat private dining room, Cassiopeia (formerly, Sidecar Goods). Additionally, the dinners will contain more courses and have one price with the beverage pairing included.

The very first dinner to ever take place in Cassiopeia will be...

Sunday, October 14th at 6:00pm (new time as well). Four Hands Vol.8 - Tokyo, Japan - with Guest Chef Ami Goto of Kitsune Food Co.!!!!!! We are elated to be working with Ami and providing our guests with a 10-course dinner alongside 6 beverage pairings for $120.00 + tax & grat. The menu will be released mid-September.

To reserve your seats, please go to https://www.cassiopeiaprivatedining.com/request-a-booking-1 and fill out the information form provided on the website. Alternatively, you can call (902) 402 - 9009 after 4pm Mon - Sat. Seats will be taken on a first come, first serve basis.

We are eagerly anticipating the next phase of our Four Hands Collaborative Dinner Series.

The Watch That Ends the Night is located in King’s Wharf in Downtown Dartmouth, south facing, with an incredible panoramic view of the Halifax skyline and harbour. The room comfortably seats up to 50 dining guests with ample standing room and soft seating for up to 85 in all. We have a cocktail and wine focused beverage program with a large selection of medium-to-high end spirits (over 180 boles), a 35-bottle wine list and several draught and bottled beer and cider options. Our food program has a focus on preservation, small and large format sharing platter options and a 12–15 item ever-changing menu of locally sourced, seasonal Canadian cuisine. The Watch’s décor is inspired by mid-century North American hotel lounges overlaid with the aesthetic of Canadian paperback novels – mahogany, dark blues, light greens, many plants and mirrors. Low level lighting with lots of natural sunlight or starlight shining through our floor-to-ceiling windows that encapsulate the space. Our soundtrack is inspired by 1920’s – 1960’s hotel lounges – blues, jazz, motown, funk and swing fill the speakers. Overall, the vibe is relaxed and upbeat, yet refined. Lounge areas, banquettes, soft seating and communal seating bring the room together for entertaining throughout the day or night.
